Born in Yuma, Arizona, Weldon attended San Diego State University, California and University of California, San Diego. She worked extensively in watercolor in 1968 and printmaking, 1971-72, until she eventually moved into acrylics and oils. Her work is often reflective of her love of music and travel. The highly decorative and rich surfaces echo experiences with nature and rhythm. Impressionistic in its direction, her work recalls a sensation or memory rather than a time or place. Barbara Weldon died October 9, 2007 in La Jolla, California.
