Born in Salzburg, Austria, 1950, Cocke received his BFA with Distinction from the University of Arizona, Tucson in 1972. He received his MA, 1974, and MFA, 1975, from University of Iowa, Iowa. He taught at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona for 22 years, retiring as Full Professor in 2005. Since then, Cocke has worked as a full-time artist, pursuing his vision through his desire to deal with the relationships between humans, and their relationships with the world around them. His 1980’s works is filled with coarse interpretations of the world, while his later work reflects a calmer landscape. Cocke currently lives and works north of Tucson, Arizona.
